NEW SHELTER CONSTRUCTION HISTORY
UPDATE September 22 ,2010: New construction has begun on several projects at the animal shelter: outside kennel area, which will house isolation adult dogs, isolation puppies, and adoptable dogs/puppies during the day while the inside kennel areas are being cleaned; large fenced play yard for the adoptable dogs/puppies; community dog park; Memorial Garden; fencing to separate isolation dogs/puppies from adoptable dogs/puppies area; and asphalt paving to be applied behind and next to existing Phase I building.

UPDATE November 28, 2007: With the electricity on and phones hooked up, the new Phase I animal shelter building at 465 Cloman Boulevard opened for business at 10am. The animal shelter phone number is the same 970-731-4771, and hours are Monday - Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

UPDATE June 19, 2007: Ready for slab pouring. The Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWS) granted an extension to July 20 for vacating the current Stevens Reservoir animal shelter.
UPDATE June 3, 2007: Continued progress on the foundation of the Phase I building.
UPDATE May 25, 2007: Second round of foundation footings are poured for the Phase I building.
UPDATE May 16, 2007: Archuleta County building permit completed to begin Phase I construction at 465 Cloman Boulevard.
UPDATE May 14, 2007: Hart Construction, awarded the road work and foundation digging by LeFever Building Systems, begins work on the Cloman Boulevard site.
UPDATE May 11, 2007: The Cloman Boulevard location with new materials on-site was staked prior to excavation for the Phase I building foundation.
UPDATE April 12, 2007: Ground was officially broken to begin the construction of the Phase I building for the new Animal Shelter facilities. Humane Society staff and dedicated volunteers, and a handful of individuals from the community braved the wet snow to attend the groundbreaking. (See the Pagosa Sun article on April 19, 2007.)
UPDATE March 8, 2007: A large semi-tractor trailer arrived bringing the supplies that will become the first building (Phase I) used to house all incoming and adoptable animals.
