AUCTION FOR THE ANIMALS 2009
UPDATE: The Humane Society’s 15th Annual Auction for the Animals, held Friday, August 28th, was a fun night out on the town for all who attended. A huge round of applause to everyone who volunteered to help make this event a success! Without their help The Auction for the Animals could not take place. This year, the Auction for the Animals committee made a concerted effort to cut costs and still put on a quality event. With these cost savings and through community support for this event, which included 306 tickets sold, the successful bidding on the wonderful live and silent auction items, and the over $10,000 in financial sponsorships, the Humane Society raised nearly $31,000. These funds will be used to offset operating costs of the animal shelter which houses the lost, homeless, abandoned, and owner surrendered dogs and cats of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta Country. We sincerely hope that all who attended had a wonderful time and went home with some great auction items!

And a big THANK YOU to our sponsors!!

How about our donation from George Strait - the autographed two CD set "50 Number Ones", complete with his biography and a page of questions and George's answers.

Horsehair pottery by Hanna JayBack by popular demand are two custom pieces of Kinlicheni signed horsehair pottery by Indian artist Hanna Jay - one in the silent auction and one in the live auction. There is also a trio of glazed pottery bears by Big Sky Carvers.

There will be some wonderful artwork this year including works by Barbara Rosner, Chuck Ren (actual signed and numbered artist's proof), signed works by Claire Goldrick and many other talented artists.

Even your cat or dog can benefit by your attendance at the event, as there will many delightful and very creative cat and dog baskets that will make it very difficult to choose which one to bid on in the silent auction.

Please plan to attend one of the most enjoyable evenings of the year which benefits a great cause - keeping our county free of wandering cats and dogs and providing them with temporary shelter until they can be reunited with their owners or an adoptive home can be found. The Humane Society does not receive any funding from the Humane Society of the United States, American Humane, the A.S.P.C.A, or from United Way. The animal shelter relies on revenue from private donations, the Thrift Store, and through fund raisers such as the Auction for the Animals.

Remember, discounted tickets can be purchased until 5:00 pm Wednesday, August 26, at the Humane Society Administration office located upstairs at the Thrift Store, Chamber of Commerce, Moonlight Books, and the Plaid Pony. Tickets will be $30 Thursday, Friday and at the door. For more information/questions or if you would like to make a tax deductible donation to the auction, please call the Humane Society administration office at 264-5549.
